The Bible says there is only one way to be prepared: trust in Jesus. Your life, your brokenness, your willing choice to live your life apart from God and by your own standards separates you from Him and places you as His enemy. Not because my actions today will win me the treasure I get then, but because my actions today reflect whether I believe it has truly been won for me by Jesus.Īnd let me say, if you haven't trusted in Jesus then there is a clear and urgent call for action here in your life: the King of everything is coming back and you're not ready for that day. So we are called to live today in light of the coming day, when Jesus returns. “Why do you keep checking the lamp has enough fuel? Can’t you see it isn’t time to be working on that?”īut no matter what is said, you keep going, because no matter how ridiculous what you’re doing may look in the quiet middle of the night, when you hear the car pull up and the footsteps sound outside the door, when He arrives, it will all make sense. “Why are you dressed in your work clothes, it’s midnight?” They’d probably look at you like you were crazy, right. Now imagine if there were others in the household who didn’t know or didn’t believe the master was coming back. "But think about it, imagine you were a servant in that house who was dressed for action, had the lamp burning, and was awake. A person is restored as long as he or she takes the seventh day as a day of rest.28 Sound familiar? The God who created us not only invites us to rest. Over time, failure to replenish the oxygen supply results in the actual death of cells and, eventually, the premature death of the person. ![]() Further, he demonstrated that replenishing an entire ounce of oxygen requires thirty to thirty-six hours (one twenty-four-hour day plus the preceding and following nights) when part of the resting is done while one is awake and moving about. He must rest an entire day to replenish his body’s oxygen requirements. The night’s rest does not fully balance the day’s work! By the seventh day, he is six-sixths or one whole ounce in debt again. He goes to sleep and breathes more oxygen than he uses to sleep, so in the morning he has regained five-sixths of the ounce he was short. At the close of the day, he is one ounce short, and his body is tired. He was able to demonstrate that the average workman breathes thirty ounces of oxygen during a day’s work, but he uses thirty-one. “DAY OF REST Some years ago, a research physician made an extensive study of the amount of oxygen a person needs throughout the day.
